For more information, see Juristat (catalogue no. 85-002) Vol.17, No.3, "Justice Spending in Canada." Expenditures in policing have been increasing over the 1988-89 to 1994-95 period. Expenditures increased from 358 million dollars in 1988-89 to 459 million dollars in 1994-95, a 28.2% increase. Expenditures on adult corrections have fluctuated over the 1988-89 to 1994 95 period. Expenditures in adult corrections increased from 82 million dollars in 1988-89 to 95 million dollars in 1992-93 but have since decreased from 91 million dollars in 1993-94 to 87 million dollars in 1994-95. Expenditures in legal aid were low compared to expenditures in policing and adult corrections. In 1988-89 17 million dollars were spent in legal aid. Expenditures gradually increased to a peak of 30 million dollars in 1992-93, and have since fallen to 28 million spent in 1993-94 and 25 million in 1994-95. |
