On an average day in Canada in 1995-96, there were 19,730 adult offenders in provincial custody, or 88 adults per 100,000 adult population. Among the provinces in 1995-96, Alberta recorded the second highest incarceration rate of adult offenders in provincial custody at 127 per 100,000 population. Alberta's incarceration rate was higher than either Manitoba's (115) or British Columbia's (84) but lower than Saskatchewan's (172) which was the highest recorded among the provinces. |
