Roles of the Summit on Justice
Steering Committee and Working Committee

A summit steering committee was appointed to oversee the organization of the summit and to submit a final report on the summit to government. A working committee supported the steering committee by planning and coordinating the logistics of the consultations and summit. Both committees received guidance and advice from judicial advisors.

How the Summit will be Organized

The summit took place in Calgary in January 1999.

Delegates were selected in September 1998 by a fair and representative process. Delegates included representatives from within Alberta's justice system, and members of the public at large. Media were invited to cover the summit. The results of the consultations formed the foundation for discussion by summit delegates.

Recommendations from the Summit on Justice were presented to the Minister of Justice and government.
