Info Sheet - Creditor Statement of Account

On September 22, 2008 the Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) introduced a new Creditor Statement of Account which makes it easier for creditors to understand what is happening with their file.

You can read your Statement of Account at MEP Accounts Online or you can request a copy by calling the program at 780-422-5555 (dial 310-0000 for toll-free access anywhere in Alberta) and following the prompts.

While online, you can print a copy of your Statement of Account including the Creditor Summary. You can also select the “Request Statement” option to have a copy of your Statement of Account mailed to you.

The Creditor Summary outlines all of the activities on your file for a particular period, such as your regular maintenance amount or an amount for expenses. It also outlines what money has been paid out on the file, including any payments made directly between the debtor and the creditor that have been reported to MEP.

If interest is charged on your file, MEP will record each interest charge on the Creditor Statement of Account as well as indicate the total amount of interest charge additions in the “Charge Summary” section of the Creditor Summary. When interest is collected and paid to you, that amount will be included in “Payment Summary”.

The Creditor Summary also displays what creditor service fees or penalties exist on the file (such as a direct payment penalty or re-registration fee) and will show if any fees or penalties remain outstanding.

If you need information for tax purposes, please request a Creditor Yearly File Summary Statement. This document replaces the tax letter previously available through the program.
