Maintenance Enforcement Program

The debtor is not paying me my court-ordered child support. Why should the debtor be allowed to see our children?

In Alberta, access (or parenting time) and maintenance are treated as separate matters. You cannot deny a parent time with children because they are not meeting their court-ordered support obligations.

It is in your child's best interests to maintain a relationship with both parents whenever possible. You may also benefit from allowing the debtor regular visits. Some studies show that debtors who haver regular visits with their children pay more child support than those who do not.
