Everyday, it seems, the world gets a little smaller.
That fact became even
clearer recently when we started to hear about the numbers of
Alberta Justice and Alberta Solicitor General
staff working in some of the world’s hotspots overseas.
It’s not that
their usual jobs have taken them there. In many cases staff have
taken a leave of absence in order to join
the Reserves within the Canadian Forces. Others have volunteered
or been seconded to assist in international post-war reconstruction
projects. (In the last
issue we featured Dr. Bernard Bannach who
led a Canadian forensic team to Kosovo to gather post-mortem evidence
at several suspected massacre sites.)
In the next
issue of Just-in, we will be featuring more staff overseas, but
we need your help to locate them. If you would like
to suggest someone, please contact an editor.
A big thank you and farewell to Co-editor Kim MacDonald, who is
leaving Just-in after several years. We wish her good luck in her
new position also in government.
More and more readers are receiving Just-in through email notifications
that link to our web site. Reading on line has several advantages
over its print-based cousin: it saves trees, it’s easy
to send to others and it features colour photos and active web
links.
Further proof that more
of you are reading on line came earlier this year when we received
web site activity statistics. In December
2002, there were more than 10,000 requests for issues of Just-in – almost
8,000 of those for the last issue.
If you would like to receive Just-in electronically please let
us know.
