Editors'
notes
Once again this issue is packed with
news and features about Alberta’s
justice system.
Did you know that over 30 motor vehicles are stolen
in Alberta every day? Some of them are unlocked vehicles stolen after their owners
left the keys in the ignition with the engine running.
Being a teenager has never been easy and being a teenager involved with the
justice system is much harder. Our Youth in the Justice System
feature looks at the new Youth Criminal Justice Act, a successful community
initiative in Lethbridge, Alberta's revised Social Studies curriculum, youth
crime rates, and the growth of youth justice committees.
Other items include plans for a unified family court
and a new bill to update and simplify provincial family law, crime
prevention award recipients and news of an historic agreement between the
federal and provincial governments and Alexis First Nation
for police services.
You might recall in the last issue, we asked you – our readers –
for suggestions about Justice and Solicitor General staff and others working overseas.
We now have several leads, but we are still looking for more. Contact any of the
editors listed if you would like to suggest someone
who is making a difference overseas.
If you would like to receive Just-in electronically please let
us know.
