Most publications celebrate major milestones like the 10th year of publishing
or the 100th edition.
But here at Just-in we mark our milestones a little differently.
This is the 13th edition of Just-in since it first hit the streets
in the fall of 1999. The publication has actually been around a lot longer than
that. Between 1993-99, Just-in was published as a staff newsletter full
of staff promotions, golf tournaments and strategic planning sessions.
During the January 1999 Alberta Summit on Justice, we heard that stakeholders
wanted more information about the justice system. Expanding Just-in to
provide justice information to both staff and stakeholders at the same time was
a natural fit.
Over the past four years we have tried to help meet your need for information
by providing stories about the many parts of the justice system, from programs
for young offenders, crime prevention, law enforcement, services for victims of
crime, family law, criminal justice, maintenance enforcement to adult corrections.
We have also begun featuring different kinds of subjects like how to avoid
car theft, what it is like to be a child going to court or -- such as in this
issue -- tales of staff who volunteer to serve in Bosnia and Kosovo.
Over this time we have also increased our circulation to more than 1,500 external
distribution points and have also started publishing on the Internet. This has
helped us keep costs down and improve accessibility and convenience.
We hope that Just-in is helping to improve your knowledge, education
and awareness of the justice system in Alberta. Drop us a line – we’d
like to hear what you think.
If you would like to receive Just-in electronically please let
us know.
