Police to enhance info sharing with APSNetCar 54 where are you? Anyone old enough to remember that corny old show may still be giggling over the pair of always out-of-touch police pals. The Alberta Public Safety Network, or APSNet for short, under development is part of a trend sometimes known as integrated justice where all parts of the justice system work together in a coordinated approach. APSNet is a communications system designed to enhance the effectiveness of policing and heighten the level of public safety by allowing all police in Alberta to share case information and intelligence. Alberta Solicitor General provided $1 million in funding for the project proposed by the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police. The system, run by the Criminal Intelligence Service of Alberta, will be integrated with the RCMP’s new criminal intelligence data system for an even better sharing of information. APSNet is expected to be in operation by Spring 2005.
