ON-LINE NEWS BRIEFS
New Justice programs and services web site
Beginning in April, an online database providing access to law-related programs
and services in the province will be available 24/7. Alberta’s law-related
information network is a useful resource for Albertans, teachers and service workers.
It is designed to provide useable information, from a user’s perspective,
and will be searchable by organization, topic, and geographical location.
The database will be set up to help, for example, a teen searching for the
nearest youth shelter, a disabled senior looking for elder abuse services or a
counsellor requiring restorative justice information.
The project, a partnership between Alberta Justice, Alberta Solicitor General
and the Legal Studies Program at the University of Alberta, is located at: www.acjnet.org/abhome.
If you, or an organization you know of, are not currently part of the database,
please apply online at the address above. For more information contact the PLECoordinator@gov.ab.ca
or at by calling (780) 427-8530 (310-0000 toll-free throughout Alberta).
New website for Tenants and Landlords
Laws for Tenants in Alberta, a new website at www.landlordandtenant.org
provides basic legal information about the rights and responsibilities of both
landlords and tenants in Alberta. It is an easy-to-use guide to renting that follows
the life of a tenant from Becoming a Tenant, Moving In and Living There,
to Moving Out. The site was developed by the University of Alberta Legal
Studies Program with funding from the Alberta Real Estate Foundation.
New Justice/Solicitor General website
The new Alberta Justice and Alberta Solicitor General web site has now been launched
and offers a more user-friendly experience for the public. The site has changed
from being organized by the departments' divisions and program areas to a subject
index that crosses divisions and brings the user to the right information quickly.
There is also a distinct home page for each ministry. See the new sites at www.justice.gov.ab.ca
and www.solgen.gov.ab.ca.

Your government info source
Looking for a government phone number? Information on family law or home security?
Crime statistics or how to find a lawyer? These are just some of things you can
find on www.ServiceAlberta.ca,
a website that links you to countless programs and services in one place.
With over 1,000 pages of program information, Service Alberta is organized
in ways that make sense to you. You don't have to know which department provides
which service. Search from a list of popular topics or click on specific categories
designed for you as a parent, an employer, a senior, or even someone dealing with
a crisis.
Common provincial government phone numbers are compiled into one quick-reference
tool and contact information on government staff is available in a click. Service
Alberta is more than a website. A phone call to Service Alberta's toll-free, 310-0000
call centre puts you in touch with a real person.
