Staff in the community

Besides all the work Justice and Solicitor General staff do on the job, they are also very active in the community.

Over $35,000 is expected to be raised for the United Way. This year's campaign featured book sales, a barbecue, e-mail bingos and a raffle with a grand prize of a computer from Acrodex.

The campaign kicked off when staff in the Maintenance Enforcement Program raised almost $400. Donations were collected for the opportunity to see colleague Ron Matthews shave off his curly, dark blond hair. "It's just hair," he said as he looked at his shiny dome. "It will grow back."

In a fundraiser for a different cause, Alberta Justice's Bev McNally and the Solicitor General's Kathy Collins joined the Cops for Cancer team and completed Ironman Canada in Penticton. They were part of the 56-member team that raised $315,000. Most members came from Edmonton but others were from Delta, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ontario, Montreal and Halifax. The Edmonton members even set up a display in West Edmonton Mall for a week and had its members ride a stationary bike the equivalent distance of Canada from coast to coast and back again.
