Staff in the community
Lethbridge Crown prosecutor Erin Olsen and Bailey are among the newest recruits of the K9 Search and Rescue Team with the Civilian Search Dog Association. Training and search time is volunteer and all certification testing is completed by the RCMP. Bailey and Erin can now be called out for assistance at any time of the day or night by the RCMP or other police agencies to help search for evidence or missing persons.

Marylee Glassford raised $3,150 for the Canadian Cancer Society and donated her beautiful long hair to the Society so that it can be used to make wigs for cancer patients. Marylee is a clerk with the Lethbridge Provincial Court and received a great deal of fundraising support from courthouse staff.

On behalf of the Edmonton Remand Centre and Edmonton Attendance Centre, Directors Terry Garnett and Pat McIntyre accepted a community service award for volunteer work with the Sacred Heart Church of First Peoples. The centres help with Christmas hampers, the Children’s Christmas Party, general landscaping and cleaning on a regular basis and donate to the church from the Offender Welfare Fund on a yearly basis.

Robin Dann, Special Projects Counsel for Alberta Justice was inducted into the Kainai Chieftainship along with Canada’s Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, Lethbridge Mayor Bob Tarleck, and Assistant Chief Judge Art Wood in Stand Off, Alberta on July 23. Robin was given the name Chief Long Knife. Previous inductees include Premier Ralph Klein, David Suzuki, Peter Lougheed, Pierre Berton and former Prime Ministers Diefenbaker and Pearson with the first induction dating back to 1919 when Edward, Prince of Wales was accepted as an honourary tribal member. The Kainai Chieftainship is a prestigious organization that is limited to 40 living members and was created to provide a bridge between Aboriginals and non-Aboriginals.
