Crime Prevention
         Week 2004

Smiles were everywhere during the annual Alberta Crime Prevention Week in May. In the photo to the right, Solicitor General Heather Forsyth congratulates Rimbey RCMP Const. Tim Fitfield during the crime prevention awards ceremony for his volunteer efforts to establish a local citizens on patrol group, a partnership with an insurance company, and contributions to a youth initiatives board.

Around Alberta, community groups and crime prevention associations held conferences, public awareness events, launched new programs, held open houses and generally spread the message that crime prevention is everyone's responsibility.

Three Calgary Block Watch groups and Calgary Police Service worked together to put on a successful event at the corner of Edmonton Trail and Memorial Drive. Calgary Mountain View MLA Mark Hlady took care of the Solicitor General booth by handing out Kidz Printz kits. The kit is for parents to fingerprint and collect personal information about their child to be kept at home but given to police if the child goes missing.
